Emergency Ration Tin . This consists of a small tin box about the size of a 2-oz. tobacco tin, and contains a solid mixture of a chocolate type of food, concentrated to give the maximum amount of food value for weight carried. It is intended only to be used in EMERGENCY when all other sources of supply fail. It is issued on the scale of ONE to every officer and man and MUST NOT BE EATEN EXCEPT ON THE ORDERS OF AN OFFICER. It can be either chewed in small pieces or ground up and mixed with hot water to make a sustaining drink.
